Marshall Bennett

Marshall suffers from a rare, terminal genetic disease, Fanconi Anemia.

Marshall had an unrelated bone marrow transplant on 9/18/03 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. To his donor, there are no words to express the gratitude that we feel. You helped save our sons life!!

Update: February 5, 2006

Good afternoon. I thought I would do a little quick update. The great news is that there is no news to report. We didn’t start our week off at the pediatricians office. That alone is good news for me. Everyone here seems to be doing really well. And the warm air is starting to make an appearance here this week. The kids have been going outside and playing a lot in the afternoon and today was the first day that we had to turn on the central A/C. I had been able to just leave the windows up during the day. The temps for the next few days will be in the low 80's which usually isn’t bad it is the humidity. Air so think that it is like breathing water when you set foot out the door. That is one thing that I could really do with out. Anyway enough about the weather.
Marshall had a basketball game Monday night and they lost but they really played a good game. On the health front he is doing pretty good. He does however have a yucky ulcer on the tip of his tongue. He said that at BB practice last week he and another boy were both going for the ball and hit heads and he bit his tongue and it has been getting worse. It seem like now it is getting better, just very slowly. We went and bought him some Bioten toothpaste, I finally found it for 4.99 a tube at Target. We use to get it years ago ( before transplant) at Eckerd’s and it cost almost 7.00 for a tube. I didn’t mind so much for two reasons, one, he was/is the only one using it and second and most important one is that it really, really works. He use to get these mouth ulcers before transplant all over in his mouth and they were bad and we had tried everything. No idea why he would get them either. But I am not sure how we found out about the toothpaste but since he started to use it he had not had any. So after transplant because he had went so long with out them we figured he could use the same toothpaste as every one else and for the last 2 years he had and did fine. So I really didn’t mind getting him the toothpaste.
